NEW DELHI, Feb 26 (Reuters) – Shreyas Iyer broke his second half-century in a row as India beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the second Twenty20 International in Dharamsha on Saturday. La’s three-game series was unbeatable 2-0.
Throwing in the bat, Sri Lanka rode Pathum Nissanka’s career-best 75 and captain Dasun Shanaka unbeaten 47 on 19 balls to lead 183-5.
India made an early miss but Ayer was not out with a superb 74 and the home side stormed home with a 17-ball advantage.
Earlier, Sri Lanka started well to deny India any wicket in the power game, with Nissanka and Danushka Gunathilaka collecting 67 points for the opening match.
Spinner Ravindra Jadeja sacked Gunathilaka for 38 in the ninth and Sri Lanka were in trouble as they lost three wickets in quick succession.
Nissanka sped up and Shanaka beat the fixed six to help Sri Lanka plunder 80 points from their last five matches, setting up a formidable goal for India.
The hosts lost captain Rohit Sharma in the first game and another opener, Ishan Kishan, did not last long.
Iyer’s batting included four sixes to bring India back into the game with good support from the middle order.
As India needed 104 runs in the last 10 rounds, Sanju Samson (39) beat Lahiru Kumara with three sixes before the eventful match fell to the seam.
Jadeja was eliminated on the 20th by Charith Asalanka, who struck 45 of 18 balls to seal the victory with his seventh boundary.
